Inter-professional collaboration between dentists and physiotherapists have the potential to improve professional practice and healthcare outcomes. Dentists and physiotherapists are involved in the management of different temporomandibular disorders such osteoarthritis, myofascial pain syndrome, internal disc derangement, bruxism, obstructive sleep apnea, musculoskeletal-related headaches and other orofacial pain disorders.  Accurate diagnosis by the dentists and evidence informed treatment by the physiotherapists are critical components in the successful management of temporomandibular disorders.  We are pleased to announce our inter-professional collaboration to help patients with temporomandibular disorders regain and restore pain free movement and overall health.

Convergence Theory of Refer Pain and Dry Needling Effect

It is evident that muscle pain deriving from any type of lesion can refer pain to other deep somatic tissues, yet not just locally. The convergence theory as depicted from animal experimental study of Mense 1994 explains the pain referral sequence. Central sensitization to adjacent spinal segments is present due to nociceptive input from skeletal muscle and myotomes outside the lesion.
